First Contact
We heard a heartbeat!! Yahoo. Our first contact with the little one was made. The little gush-gush, just working away. There was a lot of kicking and movement during the Doppler. It was so neat to hear that and to talk about it with Hunter. "Beat," he says
Doc gave us no heartrate but looked at us and said "Boy"
Uhhh.. ok, thanks Doc. edited to add "Thanks for ruining the surprise." I mean, I'm glad that he has his guess (kinda feels more educated) but I would rather make my guesses then find out when I have the purple crying baby placed on my chest... I can make my guesses and "know" in my gut, but I'd rather not hear it from him, it seems kinda final that way.
I am just so flippin' happy that there is a live, moving, heart-beating baby in there.
Phase 1 of pregnancy anxiety over.. four weeks until the next contact!

Congrats! How exciting. You never get over that swish-swish sound of the heartbeat, do you?
Yea! That's so exciting! I've always enjoyed being the nurse on the other side of the doppler giving parents the joy of hearing that heartbeat for the first time. So much fun!
Thats wonderful! Isn't that little heartbeat the most amazing sound?!
Yay! Isn't that the best!!? I want to know the heartrate!!! Ask him next time, since my baby's was 164 and he said "girl" to me. I wanna know if yours was less then 140's!?
Yippee that is so exciting! Fun that Hunter was able to hear it too. :)
It will be interesting to see if your doc is right, are you going to find out if your having a boy or a girl or will you leave it a surprise till the end?
That's so exciting Liz! Congratulations. It does kind of suck that the doctor ruined the surprise (if he's right), but if he is, you already have his wardrobe ready! :) Glad to hear your pregnancy is going well. Love ya
Great news Liz. It is so reasuring to hear that heart beat. I can still remember hearing the first beats from each of my boys. It makes the whole thing seem more real.
Liz!
Thanks for the update - it is nice to know that everything is going smoothly.
Woot for the heartbeat! Boo for the doctor!
Though two boys would be a riot if that's the case :)
Meh. He's probably wrong anyway.
Thanks for blogging. Miss ya!
So cool. That first three months is a long one expecially when you're not feeling great. Thanks for modern technology. At this point God has decided what this little miracle is and that's good by us. So glad to be able to share more of your pregnancy now that you live in Kamloops. Love you. Fran or Grandma (Proud)
That is the BEST! It makes me miss pregnancy (the good parts of course!) So glad your baby is growing and thriving in their little home. One trimester down, 2 to go!
Very exciting, love that fast little heartbeat. Whoosh, whoosh! Very cool Hunter was there to share it with you.
Doctors, what do they know anyway? He's guessing based on heartbeat? Never heard of that. Do you want to know, or wanting a surprise?
It's a very 'uneducated' way for the doc to guess boy or girl. What if the baby was in a sleep cycle? then the heart rate would be low anyways. It's an old wives tale. I've listened to THOUSANDS of fetal heart rates and they vary so much that it's impossible to guess the sex based on the heart rate. I wouldn't give his guess much credit. The only 100% way to know the sex is to look between the legs when it's born (unless they see boy bits on the ultrasound then it's a dead give away)!
Yessssss I get to see you tonight! FINALLY! And I am totally going to (try to) listen to the heartbeat myself.
Love you.
Wow Liz, that must be so exciting. I can't wait till it is my turn (not for awhile though)
That is still one of the most precious sounds. BTW I don't believe that the heartbeat is that much of a indication. Didn't work on either of my sons lol
Congratulations! That's great that you heard your baby...there's no greater sound!
Oh, FYI, my doctor said...boy heartbeat, too. We named him Lauren!
AWESOME.
