Vehicle Talk

Since planning and finding out about child #2, the conversation in our house has featured vehicles on more than one occasion. I am a van-lover, Justin is not. I want to have more children and I would very much like to have the space to store things behind us, with a cargo net to prevent flying objects. I grew up with vans. I learned to drive in one (thus my chin-to-back-shoulder-checks). I just like 'em. Anyhow, J is not the biggest fan and on more than one occasion has flat out refused to ever drive one.

Great.

Next year, God-willing, I will be on maternity leave with a two-year-old and a newborn. I do not want to be stuck in the house all day because I have no vehicle to get anywhere. Justin will be working and there is no way that I am going to pull myself and two little ones out of bed for 7:30am just to get him to work so that I can have the car (as I sometimes will do, these days, to have the car on my day off). We have discussed a number of possible options: second vehicle (meh, pricey and I'm not the biggest fan of that), bike (him), bus (me), carpool (him), etc... The reality lies in the fact that we do not yet know what the future has in store for him with respect to the job department for this fall. Ah well. I trust.

So, we're cruising to the Lower Mainland for J's conference on Saturday and we pull through Tim Horton's, the car stacked with stuff. As we pull out of the drive-thru and I am holding Justin's scalding coffee, he says "We need to get a minivan."

Yes! I'm doing the little victory dance in my seat, trying not to spill the coffee and thinking of how much we can have saved if we start saving now, in order to invest in this vehicle. No word of what will happen to the current vehicle, but that's alright.

Then, Justin pipes up again. "They have sweet cupholders."

That's my dear husband... ever conscious of the greater needs.

Cup holders, is what made him like the idea, that is funny, but if it gets you a van then right on! :)

I can't wait to get a van either!
Ian is on board with it though so I don't have to do any convincing.

I can't imagine life without my van. I LOVE IT! Cup holders galore, storage, seats fold down into the floor in the back for even more storage room. Got my fingers crossed for you.

Awesome! You're totally gonna rock the mini-van! I love mine and can't imagine toting the kids around town without it. I have friends who scrunch up their noses at the thought of upgrading to a minivan but in the end I just laugh when I see them struggling to pull out the stroller and other kid-paraphernalia necessary to make it through the day.
