the English Language

Hunter seems to show us that he is developing an understanding of nuances in the English language and seems to be able to use parts of the figures of speech, namely similes.

Wikipedia: A simile is a comparison of two unlike things, typically marked by use of "like", "as", "than", or "resembles".

A while ago, when Justin was putting together the shelves for Susannah's room, Hunter was playing in the room and I was nursing. Justin was using his drill to put them up and came across a point where he took the butt of the drill and pounded it onto the drywall anchor he had just put in. "Bang Bang Bang" Hunter, busy playing, looked at his Dad and said "Sounds like a hammer, Daddy. Sounds like a hammer." Smart! Not quite a simile but he is beginning to make connections between things that aren't alike.

Then, today, I was making carrot cake and carrot soup (can you tell my garden has been harvested?). Susannah was sitting in the bouncy chair while Hunter was playing on the floor. He set up his zip tracks around Susannah, then I went to nurse her and put her to sleep. When I returned, he had made a long single track on the floor and said, "Looks like a 'nake (snake), Mommy. Looks like a 'nake." SMART!

Obviously I am pretty proud of my boy!

As well you should be! I remember these moments when The Big Guy's understanding began to blossom. It was amazing! And I think I completely bored my neighbors, the grocery store clerk, and ppl at the park with my proud stories. Pshaw! I didn't care, and I totally laugh about it now! Hehehe.

You go, Hunter!!
